The recent news surrounding Olerato Mongale's disappearance, abduction, and murder has shaken our nation. South Africa faces a disturbing surge in domestic violence and femicide, often at the hands of someone close to the victim. Despite Olorato's precautions, she fell prey to her predator(s), highlighting the gravity of our country's crime problem. As an organization dedicated to addressing this issue, we acknowledge that superficial solutions won't suffice. However, if our efforts can spark meaningful conversations or inspire one person to take action, it will be a step in the right direction. Olerato's case may be prominent, but many others have suffered similar fates without receiving the same attention.
In solidarity with Olerato's family and the broader community, FVCK Lifestyle is offering legal consultation through the appointment of counsel. We urge the government to prioritize policy reform, focusing on strengthening laws specifically against domestic violence. We recognize that our voice is one of many, and we call on individuals, organizations, and institutions to join us in demanding change.
We are not an organization that wants to pride itself on reactionary events; however, our silence would be an endorsement of the status quo if we don't deliberately voice our stance in matters like these that plague our society.
